International Development
Approach
Assai has significant experience throughout the Asia Pacific region
(over 200 projects) in all aspects of designing and delivering
appropriate designs, facilities, infrastructure and community building
processes within a development context. It requires building a bridge
between the culture of government agencies on the one hand, and the
culture of poor and often isolated communities. We actively develop use
of local resources and capabilities by involving local institutions,
associations, suppliers, professionals and beneficiaries in project
design and implementation.
We work with communities, government and funders to ensure the beneficiaries are consulted and participate in decisions. Our unique consultative approach involves elicitng stakeholder needs and goals through transparent workshop methods.
Our projects are based on the following development principles:
- Active counterpart participation;
- Simple, appropriate and affordable technical designs;
- Durable, easily constructed and easily maintained buildings;
- Maximum use of local human and material resources;
- Opportunities for local builders and suppliers;
- Design, management and procurement support to strengthen local processes; and
- Funding agency procurement and reporting compliance requirements
